María Angélica Viso
An internationally renowned visual artist, he challenges the hardness and weight of metal, creating “airy” forms that give the impression of lightness.
In a way, in his procedures, he “tears” the sheet metal as if it were a “sheet of paper.” The hardness of steel becomes an image of lightness. The aim of his work is to demonstrate a balanced relationship between plane, form, color, material, and space. Relying on the benefits of metal, using mainly curved lines, he alleviates the rigid moments of geometry and finds a way to represent the subtleties and behaviors of flexible materials such as paper in the severity of metal, in such a way that he finds a rhythm in shapes and colors.
The importance of color in all his works is noteworthy. It is the central theme. Each piece dazzles with the vividness and purity of color, which means luminosity. The bright and energetic color not only emphasizes their remarkably clean craftsmanship, but also, in our perception, the work is expressed not only as form but also chromatically. The color is clear, and that is precisely why it is the distinctive element of all María Angélica Viso’s sculptures.
